Rocky Mountain National Park

August 28, 2019

The road across the Rockies begins in Estes Park, Colorado. The main road is paved, but there is an older and narrower, unpaved road further north. The Fall river Road dates from 1920, and has a posted speed limit of 15 m.p.h. The tree line is at about 9,000 feet here in the Rockies, and the road's summit is at 11,700 feet above sea level. We paused at the ranger station here for a short visit, and then descended to lower elevations to alleviate the headaches caused by the lower oxygen levels at these heights.

We followed the Colorado River for a while before crossing the Continental divide again heading back eats to Denver.

One Republic at Red Rocks

August 27, 2019

My wife's favorite band, One Republic, was performing with the Colorado Symphony at the Red Rock Amphitheater outside Denver. We flew directly there from Europe. During the day, we visited the State Capitol and climbed to the dome before driving out to Red Rocks, at the Front Range of Rockies west of town.
